Our New Grill

For the past few weeks I have been working hard delivering Yellow Books. With the money that we earned, Lynz and I were able to purchase a new Barbequer. The new unit came in a box and took me about 2 long hours in the garage to put together. Lynzee marinated some huge steaks that we grilled on the new grill last night. It was delicious!! We now look forward to creating many new memories that involve grilling meat in the back yard.

The Meat!

So this past month has been a lot of fun working for Yellow Book. Some people don’t enjoy doing this type of work but I have found that I really enjoy doing it for a couple of different reasons. For my normal job I sit in an office all day long and do most of my work over the phone; delivering books gives me a chance to get outside and get some exercise. My sister Kori is another reason; she comes out and helps me with the majority of the routes and we enjoy spending good quality time, she even made us some cool “I am Yellow Book” shirts; she is so much fun to deliver with. I have always enjoyed following maps and seeing new parts of the Salt Lake Valley, so as crazy as it may sound to some, I absolutely love delivering books. The pay is also pretty descent at about an average of $12.50 per hour.

Here is the story of how I got started delivering Yellow Books. Last year I wanted to make some extra money and I found out that Yellow Book needed help doing deliveries. I went in and applied and got accepted to start doing deliveries right away. With the help of Kori and Randy and my Dad’s truck, we were able to complete routes quickly and effectively. Instead of taking a rest after completing each route, I eagerly pursued more routes and more work. The Yellow Book manager John told me one day that he wished everyone would quickly finish routes and document the deliveries the way I did. At that point I thought it was just a nice complement and I didn’t think much of it, but John began to call me and request that do certain routes that needed special attention. He raised my pay and began giving me bonuses and would ask me to overtake other people’s routes that were not being completed correctly. I was always anxious to do more work so I looked forward to the random jobs that he needed me to get done quickly. I took each job as an opportunity and did my best to prove that I could be a loyal asset to the company. I believe that this simple mind set is one of the reasons why I enjoy working so much and has opened the door to more opportunities this current year. This year John moved to manage the Las Vegas market and Josh took over for the Salt Lake Valley. John passed my information on to Josh and he is now the one that calls me with the random jobs he wants me to do. I very much enjoy the work!
